Why dropping off is often the better option
We offer free pickup and plenty of people use it, but if you can fit your books in the car, dropping them off is simpler for everyone. There is no waiting for a route day, no minimum to meet, and no need to be home at a particular time.
- No 30 item minimum. The minimum exists because a van trip has to be worth making. Walking in has no such problem, so bring one bag if that is what you have.
- It happens today. A pickup gets scheduled onto a route day. A drop-off happens the moment you arrive.
- We do the carrying. Pull up, and someone comes out. You do not need to haul anything through a door.
- You can see where they go. Plenty of people are curious about what happens next, and we are happy to show you.

There is no minimum, no appointment and no form to fill in before you arrive. One carrier bag is as welcome as a car full of boxes, which is the main practical difference between dropping off and booking a collection: the thirty item minimum only applies when a van has to make the drive.
What happens when you pull up
Park in the lot and somebody comes out to the car. You do not need to carry anything through a door, and you do not need to find a member of staff first: we are watching for arrivals during opening hours and books are heavy enough that we would rather do the lifting ourselves.
Most drop-offs take under five minutes. If you want a hand sorting out what is worth leaving and what is not, ask, and someone will go through a box with you rather than send you home with a guess. If you are arriving with a boot full and the weather is doing something dramatic, pull up close to the door and we will work around it.
Do you need to call ahead? No. A call to 813-586-0766 is welcome if you are bringing a genuinely large load and want someone waiting, or if you are running close to 5pm, but for an ordinary drop-off just turn up.
How much can I bring at once?
There is no upper limit and no need to warn us for an ordinary car load. A boot, a back seat, a pickup bed and a small trailer are all normal here, and we would rather you came once with everything than made four trips to be polite.
Where it stops making sense is a whole house. If you are looking at a room of shelves, a garage stacked to the roof or an estate to clear, do not spend a weekend ferrying boxes across town: book a free collection instead, or read estate and large collections, which get a dedicated Wednesday trip with the right vehicle. The drop-off exists to save you a wait, not to save us a drive.
One practical note either way: small boxes beat big ones. A banana box of books is about as much as most people can lift comfortably, and a large moving box packed full usually is not.
Coming on a Saturday
We are closed at weekends with one exception: the 4th Saturday of every month, 9am to 2pm, during the MaxX Book Bonanza. That is a good time to bring books, since we are open anyway, there are plenty of hands, and you can see for yourself what happens to the ones that do not sell online: they go straight onto the dollar tables outside, and the money raised goes to the Friends of South Holiday Library and the Friends of the Clearwater Library System.

Coming from further out?
People drop off from all over Tampa Bay. From Trinity it is about ten minutes, from Palm Harbor or Hudson around twenty, and from Clearwater or Tampa it is a longer run, so if you are coming from that far it is usually worth booking a free pickup instead and letting us do the driving.
