Why dropping off is often the better option
We offer free pickup and plenty of people use it, but if you can fit your books in the car, dropping them off is simpler for everyone. There is no waiting for a route day, no minimum to meet, and no need to be home at a particular time.
- No 30 book minimum. The minimum exists because a van trip has to be worth making. Walking in has no such problem, so bring one bag if that is what you have.
- It happens today. A pickup gets scheduled onto a route day. A drop-off happens the moment you arrive.
- We do the carrying. Pull up, and someone comes out. You do not need to haul anything through a door.
- You can see where they go. Plenty of people are curious about what happens next, and we are happy to show you.
What to bring, and what to leave at home
We take books of every kind, including textbooks of any age and ex-library copies, plus DVDs, music CDs, audiobooks on CD, cassette tapes and video games. Full list here.
Please check the short list of things we cannot take before you load the car. The one that matters most is anything with a musty or mouldy smell, since that can spoil whatever it is stored next to.
Got more than fits in the car? That is what the free pickup is for. Thirty books or more, anywhere in Pasco, Pinellas or Hillsborough. Schedule a free pickup.
Coming from further out?
People drop off from all over Tampa Bay. From Trinity it is about ten minutes, from Palm Harbor or Hudson around twenty, and from Clearwater or Tampa it is a longer run, so if you are coming from that far it is usually worth booking a free pickup instead and letting us do the driving.
Drop-off questions
Do I need an appointment?
No. Turn up any weekday between 10am and 5pm. If you are bringing a car load and want someone waiting to help, a quick call to 813-586-0766 is welcome but not required.
Is there a minimum?
None at all. The 30 book minimum only applies to pickups, because that is what makes the drive worth it. At the office we will happily take a single bag.
Do I have to carry the boxes in?
No. Pull up outside and someone will come out to you. Books are heavy and we do this all day, so let us do the lifting.
Do I need to sort them first?
No. Bring them exactly as they are. The only thing worth checking is our short list of things we cannot take, especially anything with a musty smell.
Can I come on a weekend?
The 4th Saturday of every month, 9am to 2pm, during the MaxX Book Bonanza. That is a good time to come because we are open anyway and there are plenty of hands. Other weekends we are closed.
Where exactly do I go?
5266 State Road 54 in New Port Richey. Parking is free and on site. If you cannot find us, call 813-586-0766 and we will talk you in.
