Most people start by asking who will take the books at all. A bag of recent paperbacks is easy to place anywhere. Six boxes from a house clearance, a shelf of old textbooks, or a collection with DVDs and CDs mixed in is a different problem, and that is the one we are built for.

Where to donate books in Tampa Bay
Everything we do runs from one building on State Road 54 in New Port Richey and three fixed route days out of it. That is the whole operation: no franchises, no partner network, no lead form that sells your details on to whoever is nearest. If a van comes to your door it is ours, and if you bring books in, the person who takes them off you is the person who sorts them.

Book donation bins: why we do not use them
People search for a donation bin because it is the version of this that needs no conversation. We understand the appeal, and we still do not run them. Books left in an unattended bin in Florida meet humidity, rain and heat before anyone collects them, and damp books are worth nothing to anybody. Bins also attract everything else people want gone, which turns a book donation point into a dumping ground.
Handing the books to a person costs you very little more. The office is open on weekdays and somebody comes out to your car, or the pickup arrives at your door and you never touch the boxes twice.
What happens to donated books
We are booksellers, so every box is opened and gone through by hand by people who know what a book is worth. That is the part a bin or a skip cannot do. Titles with a real market are listed and sold, which is what pays for the vans, the fuel and the free collection. Nothing is weighed in or pulped because it was quicker than looking.
Where your donation actually ends up
Most of what comes through the door is not rare, and that is rather the point. A book with no auction value is still somebody’s next read, so the question we ask of every box is who would want this rather than what is it worth.
- Our monthly $1 book sale. The MaxX Book Bonanza runs the 4th Saturday of every month, 9am to 2pm, in New Port Richey. Everything is a dollar, which is deliberate: it is priced so people fill a bag rather than agonize over a title. The money it raises goes to the Friends of South Holiday Library and the Friends of the Clearwater Library System.
- Little Free Libraries. The volunteers who keep those boxes stocked across Pasco and Pinellas take crates from us, which is how a lot of donated paperbacks end up on a street corner near where they started.
- Children’s hospital wards. Children’s books in good condition go to kids who are in hospital and would rather be anywhere else.
- Friends of the Library bookstores. Groups running their own shops and sales take stock from us for the shelves they need to fill.
- Local literacy and reading projects. Community groups come to us as they need books, and some of them host their own sales at our venue.
Who we work with
This side of the business grew out of the library side. We have worked with more than twenty Florida library and Friends of the Library groups since 2024, handling the stock their own sales could not move, and we sponsored the Florida Library Association’s 2026 Annual Conference. Those relationships are the reason a donated box has somewhere useful to go after the sellable titles are listed: we already know the people who want the rest.
It also means we will say so when a Friends group is the better home for what you have. If your books are exactly what a local library sale needs, sending them there does more good than sending them to us, and we would rather tell you that than take the boxes.

- Use small boxes. Books get heavy far faster than people expect.
- Do not tape the boxes shut. We sort as we load.
- Keep them off a damp garage floor overnight. A pallet, a tarp or a shelf is enough.
- No need to sort, clean or alphabetize anything. Truly.
- Check the list of things we cannot take first, so you are not left holding a box of VHS tapes.

Not one of ours. We do not run unattended donation bins, because books left outside in Florida weather are usually ruined by damp before anyone collects them, and a full bin becomes a dumping spot. Handing books to a person instead means they arrive dry and in the condition you left them in. Our door is open on weekdays and the pickup comes to you.

Do I have to sort my book donations first?
No, and it saves you nothing. We sort every box by hand when it arrives, so bring or leave them exactly as they are. The one thing worth pulling out is anything with a musty or mouldy smell, because that can spoil whatever is stored next to it.
