Which round East Lake is on

East Lake is in Pinellas County. It is an unincorporated area of north-east Pinellas, between Palm Harbor and the Pasco county line. The closest places we also collect from are Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs and Oldsmar, all of them on the same Monday run. Of the two library groups our monthly $1 book sale raises money for, the Friends of the Clearwater Library System is the one nearest East Lake.

We run fixed routes rather than driving out for one collection at a time, which is the main reason pickup is free. East Lake is collected on Mondays. Large collections, estates and whole libraries get a dedicated Wednesday trip instead, anywhere in the three counties, and we call you to book a time.

East Lake is unincorporated, so the postal address, the county line and what people locally call the area do not always agree. It makes no difference to us. We route by where you actually are, not by city limits, so if your address says one thing and your neighbours say another, put the ZIP on the form and we will sort it out.

ZIP codes we cover here: 34685, 34688. If your ZIP is not listed but you are in Pinellas County, ask anyway. The routing is by area, not by a fixed list.

What goes in the boxes

All kinds of books, including textbooks of any age and ex-library discards, plus DVDs, music CDs, audiobooks on CD, cassette tapes, video games, board games and puzzles. We take the whole lot rather than picking through it and leaving you the rest.

We cannot take VHS tapes, mass-market paperbacks, encyclopedia sets, Reader's Digest Condensed volumes, magazines and newspapers, or anything with mould, water or insect damage. Full list of what we accept and what we cannot.

Where East Lake books end up

Books from East Lake go back into circulation rather than into a skip. Much of what we collect ends up on the tables at our monthly $1 book sale, in the hands of groups that stock Little Free Libraries, or with Friends of the Library groups raising money for their own bookstores. We are book resellers, and that is the point: a bookseller going through your shelves spots what is actually worth something where a hauler would not.

Donating books from East Lake

If you are looking for somewhere to donate books in East Lake, there are two ways to do it with us. The easiest is a free pickup: box them up, leave them somewhere sheltered, and we collect them on the Monday run. If you have fewer than thirty, or would rather hand them over yourself, bring any amount to our drop-off on State Road 54 in New Port Richey, weekdays 10am to 5pm.

It does not matter whether your address reads East Lake or the town next door. Donations are routed by ZIP code, so either will find you.

Donating books anywhere in Pinellas County

What day do you collect in East Lake?

Mondays. East Lake is in Pinellas County, which is on our Monday route. Get your request in a day or two ahead and you are usually on that week's run. Large collections are different: those get a dedicated Wednesday trip, so say so on the form if that is you.

Do I have to be home when you collect in East Lake?

No. Box the books, leave them somewhere sheltered such as a covered porch, carport, garage or behind a side gate, and tell us where on the form. We collect on your route day any time between 8am and 8pm. You do not need to be there or reachable.

Is there really no charge for a East Lake pickup?

None. Pickup is free anywhere in our three counties, including East Lake. We ask for thirty items or more, and books, discs and games all count, because that is what makes a stop worth the drive, and running fixed routes on set days is what keeps it free. Under thirty, you are welcome to drop off instead.

My address says Palm Harbor but I am in East Lake. Which one do I put on the form?

Either. The ZIP code is the part we route on, so as long as that is right we will find you. Unincorporated areas trip up a lot of delivery services; they do not trip up ours.

Ready to clear the shelves?

Tell us roughly how many books you have and where you are. We will come to you, free, anywhere in Pasco, Pinellas or Hillsborough County.
